Earlier this month, 5-member girl-group T-ara had replaced 2 of their members even before their debut. Jeon Yeongrok's daughter, Jeon Boram have been said to replace one of Jiwon and JiAe. Nam Gyuri from girl group SeeYa have also left the group previously.

The member replacement is a growing concern lately. Groups like the Wonder Girls, Baby V.O.X., and Jewelry all had members that left the group. M-Net has announced that they are still on the lookout for the possible new member of T-ara.

Female group members switch in and out often...why?

Earlier this month, 5-member new female female group T-ara changed member right before it's debut. Jiwon (Yang Jiwon) and Jiae (Lee Jiae) left, and singer Jun Youngrok's daughter Jun Boram joined. Group Seeya's Nam Gyuri left after the group went through some internal troubles. Seeya's management M-net Media said that in the process of moving their core content, Nam Gyuri didn't fit in. Thus they had to have Jiyeon, who was originally scheduled to be in T-ara, to join in Seeya's new album.

Female group's frequent changing of members has caught a lot of attention. Wonder Girls, Jewelry, and Baby Vox ReV all have members that left and joined. Although there were circumstances like Wonder Girls' HyunAh leaving for health reasons, most of the time "there is no special reason" and the management agrees. T-ara's management M-net Media also said "the two members of T-ara's characters didn't match so they left to strengthen the style of the group."

Female groups' venomous exchanges have many reasons.

Member exchanges cause "100 worries and 101 decisions," causing great dangers and burdens. Someone from the industry said, "no matter how good one looks or how skilled one is, you're just not one of the members that started from the beginning. It doesn't hurt to look at the main causes of the internal problems. If there are problems betwen the members, then they have nothing but to change members."

There is also misjudgment on the side of the management towards member exchanges. Another person said "There are also times when the judgment of 'this person doesn't seem right' comes too late. When you replace onion with garlic, decisions are made hastily and thus cause mistakes in preparation. Though troubles will follow, they resolutely decide to carry out the process of exchanging members."

Of course there are also groups like Wonder Girls and Kara who actually succeed greatly after member changes. After Wonder Girls' member HyunAh left and Yoobin came, they made great hits such as <Nobody> and <So Hot>. Kara's Kim Sunghee left last February and in JUne Koo Hara and Kang Jiyoung joined, gaining huge popularity through <Honey> and <Pretty Girl>.

However it's a greater blow to female groups to have member exchanges than male groups. Whether it's new groups or groups that have been around for a while, the feeling of half-heartedness is hard to forget for the public.

Female groups' best conditions.

To control conflicts within female groups, teamwork is the most important. When another member gets a lot more popular, instead of being jealous, it's important to stay supportive. Jewelry's Park JungAh always says to the trainees, "When I received attention, (Seo) Inyoung supported me and didn't hold a grudge, when Inyoung got popular I also applauded. It's not just important to be pretty or sing well. Teamwork is the most important." Star Empire Entertainment's trainee Son SungAh (21) added, "It's easy to become jealous between girls, so it's really important to overcome it."

But we cannot ignore looks. Jewelry's CEO Cho Sungwoon said, "For female groups, no matter what, appearances are the most important. Then we see their singing and dance skills. There isn't just one doll-like appearance that is preferred. Natural features and an impression that is easily favorable to the public is top priority. Another official said, "Even if they're pretty, to not be charming can eliminate you at once."

The recent trend has been long preparations starting very young. Before people started between 16-25, but recently a 12-year-old minimum has come about. Companies work a lot more on the best singing, dancing, and appearances. 2ne1's executive from YG Entertainment Park Jaejoon said, "You don't just pick by looks. We choose the ones with the most passionate and enthusiastic eyes."

He added, "We choose the ones equipped with the basics, and gradually improve through practice. We give them the opportunity to learn singing, dancing, and rap." Though rap is a specialty, it's important to solidify one's position through singing and dance as well.

that's such a sad trend to follow. -.-'' having members change is never easy for both the group and fans.

but i guess, it's kinda good that Jiae and Jiwon realized it earlier that they won't fit in with the group?

better now then realizing it after debut and leaving halfway. that would hurt even more.

thanks ting and elly! :P
