what's mayoral?

Mayoral means regarding the mayor. The election was to choose the next head of the local government for Seoul because the last one resigned in August after he failed to convince people that ending free lunches for school kids (in Seoul) would be a good thing for the economy.

It always amazes me how Korean idols balance school and their careers compared with Japanese idols who tend to drop out of education. With the amount of time spent practicing, recording, filming, performing and travelling I don't know where they find the time and energy to go to class and/or study. By "strategical decision" and "very analytical" they probably just mean that Yayaya, like Bo Peep Bo Peep, has a really obvious hook that Roly Poly doesn't quite have and the overall sound of the song is just a lot more catchy. Japan's music industry is more succeptible to that sort of music than even Korea and way more prone than English-speaking markets. It should do as well as Bo Peep Bo Peep, even without promotion.

As an overall package of music and the concept (visuals), Yayaya seems more suited to Japanese taste than Roly Poly to me. Out of all their songs so far, the only one that I think fits better with the Japanese sense of a female idol group would be 몰라요/I Don't Know.

It would probably be better to let this go but I just remembered something. Regarding the initial perforance that had the netizens buzzing, last year during SNSD's Oh promotions they (SNSD) added playful bits into their performances during Taeyeon's first part. It started as just Yuri and Hyoyeon then most of them joined in during later performances and it was quite fun to watch. No big controversy then back then and it wasn't even part of the choreography. It's such a non-issue that it's quite frustrating that Hyomin has felt the need to explain their actions which clearly means the criticism is bothering her.

To me it's just someone feeling self-important and jumping on the bandwagon. Maybe it's because I'm not completely familiar with Korean social expectations but even if they failed to greet him I'd say it's far more disrepectful to publicly criticise somebody about something before raising the issue with them in private. In a way it's good that he apologised but his words may have caused some real hurt.

I haven't seen any videos of the performance but from the photos I thought she looked quite fresh. Whether that's just make up or not is another story but compared to some other performances recently I think she looked much less tired.

I'm not a great watcher of dramas so I don't know him as an actor but by sheer coincidence I watched the two episodes of Family Outing with him this week. He seems like a fun guy to have around.

With 50 episodes I'd imagine she'll be missing from a lot of T-ara promotions next year just like with Coffee House and Dream High and Hyomin now with Gyebaek.
