Review: Never Ever walk under Yeouido Cherry Blossoms or be a Marrionette
It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for – T-ara member Jiyeon has finally released her first ever solo album and MV. Let me take you on a deep dive on the music video, the tracklist and everything Jiyeon.
At 12:00 KST of May 20th, Core Contents Media released the long awaited music video and album of our T-ara member Park Jiyeon.
Produced by Park Sehyun, the music video starts off with the first part of the choreography. As Jiyeon belts out the first lines of the lyrics, the screen changes to a stop-motion type of drama. From her waking up, to slicing up cucumbers, watering a pot of plants, or knitting, she always ends up doing the same things all over again the next day.
All of a sudden there comes a stop to the things she’s doing as she slowly realizes where she is. Her made up world is slowly crumbling down to shades of grey. The blurred face of a man in a white coat symbolizing a doctor. Time stops, rain starts to pour, and a man in black with a black umbrella turns her back on her, leaving her in tears.
I’m not good at deciphering the true meaning of the storyline in every music videos, but I’m pretty sure it’s about letting go of the one you love but no matter what, you just can’t let that person go.

The choreography was done by Yama and Hotchicks together with Bae Yoonjung. I’m sorry but I think my nose is bleeding from the perfect choreo and I don’t think I’ll look at a wall the same ever again! The chorus part is perfect, with the way she raised the hem of her jacket and those endless body waves shows how much of a beautiful dancer our maknae is. Let’s not forget that the key to a beautiful choreography is how the dancers are in-sync with each other. The part with the male dancer, how many of you are wishing to be that guy? All in all it’s beautiful and I can’t seem to find a word that would truly describe it. What to call the dance though.. probably “Wall-Dance”? Comment below if you know of a good name to call it!
I’m not sure if I should comment on the English of the song, but for once I gotta say that the “Nevah Evah” and “I wanna be with you, but I will pray for you baby” lines are catchy. It reminds me of the reason why I fell in love T-ara: their catchy song lyrics.
The tracklist.. Starting off with “Never Ever”, all I can say is that I’m in love with this song. The song was composed by Duble Sidekick (no wonder it’s kickass). As a music lover, I practically listen to a whole bunch of songs all day. And this song just blew me away. I’m not being biased here – I am telling the truth. From the intro of the song with that electric guitar and vocalization, it already captured me. The way the drums beat throughout the song was splendid and it kept the whole song on beat with its constant tempo. We often times hear changes in the tempo on various songs, but this song is different. It has a steady beat even as it enters its chorus and bridge. One thing I’m very sure of is that the song is entirely and definitely made for Jiyeon. It complements Jiyeon’s soft voice and perfect vocals.
The second track is my favorite, “여의도벚꽃길” or is also called “Yeouido Cherry Blossoms” is a song about love in spring. Where you tend to walk beneath the shades of blooming Cherry Blossom trees hand in hand with the person you love. The English of the song is perfect. And I’m pretty sure I’m hearing the sound of cowbells again in this song (yes, I love the sound of cowbells on songs). The lyrics are pretty catchy which makes it easier to fall with. It’s a pretty sweet song to sing to your lover.
Lastly, “꼭두각시” or “Marrionette”. As to how “Yeouido Cherry Blossoms” is about love, “Marrionette” is about being lifelessly controlled by a person you love that broke your heart. The power of the bass in the song isn’t that over powering, which makes it beautiful.
All in all the album, the music video and the choreography is splendid. It shows a new side of Jiyeon, which was her goal from the beginning as she said in a press conference. With support from her friends and the amount of love from overseas fans, I’m honestly seeing this debut as a success already. For this Diadem, with a special collaboration with T-ara Dot Com came up with ideas on how to support Jiyeon’s solo debut. Teasers would be spread throughout various subway stations in Seoul.
The album is now available for download on iTunes.
