I think its more like a room where people can have group chat. One of the Knetizens comment was"Why did they have to talk in Kakao story?". But This is just my assumption based on a comment. Edit: yeah,it said" they should have Kakao talk not Kakao story". So they were basically having general chat not private so one of the netizen who saw it must have leaked it.
