T-ara is a popular girl group that debuted in 2009 under Korean Entertainment Agency Core Contents Media (now Music Beyond Korea; MBK Entertainment), comprising of 6 members: Jeon Boram, Lee Qri, Park Soyeon, Ham Eunjung, Park Hyomin and Park Jiyeon. The name T-ara stems from the English word Tiara, with the goal of becoming the Queens of Music. 17173: Please introduce each member. T-ara: Hello everyone~ We are T-ara. Our members are Jeon Boram, Lee Qri, Park Soyeon, Ham Eunjung, Park Hyomin and Park Jiyeon. We are really happy to meet everyone on 17173. 17173: Do you all meet up with one another outside of the usual schedules? T-ara: Because we’re an idol group, we usually meet up even outside schedules. We play bowling, watch movies, try out different types of delicious food together, and even drive around the Han River to hang out. 17173: Please share the kinds of games that you would usually like to play. T-ara: Of course we like games that have some competitive sense, because playing games alone is really boring. We also like the kind of puzzle games that you play with friends over chatting app (like KakaoTalk or Line). We can play while we chat with friends that way. 17173: You are the ambassadors of World of Warships (WOWS), a kind of war game that is more suitable for males. What do you think are your qualities that fit well with the WOWS concept? T-ara: Because both WOWS and we are cool~ haha, actually we think Jiyeon really fits the war sailor concept. Furthermore, we really admire navy soldiers, battling on the deep blue seas with battleships. They are the protectors and upholders of safety on waters, really cool and passionate. 17173: Why did you all choose to work with WOWS? What attracted you to endorse and be ambassadors of this game? T-ara: Actually we don’t usually play games, except when we are in the van or waiting room. Mobile games seem a lot more fun than PC games, like mobile puzzle games. But we have been playing WOWS whenever we have free time! All of us like WOWS for different reasons too. Eunjung likes the beautiful graphics, Boram likes the island terrain so she’s really immersed in the game whenever she plays. Whereas for Jiyeon, she’s really good at WOWS so she likes to play and taunt us. 17173: Many Chinese celebrities are streaming games nowadays, have you all considered to do the same? T-ara: We have considered and would really like to stream WOWS if we have the chance to. However, we hope that everyone would not mind if we don’t play the game well~! 17173: If WOWS intend to make T-ara characters, what would you like them to be like? T-ara: Actually, we already have our characters in WOWS, Jiyeon is the Yamato (Japanese battleship)! Every time Jiyeon plays as Yamato in WOWS, she will be really into the game. She'd shout and ask us to follow her lead and charge into battle. But Hyomin would tends to end up having the best score in the end. Actually, Hyomin is pretty good at every game she plays too. Nevertheless, Jiyeon’s courage and competitive personality really match well with the Yamato. 17173: Who is the best at playing WOWS? Or should we say, who is the gaming god? T-ara: Hyomin! Hyomin is really, really good at WOWS! She’s really good at many games, it’s like she has a talent for gaming. We normally need to follow her lead to victory. 17173: What do you think of gamers? What kind of impression do you have of them? T-ara: Gamers are pretty adorable, haha, gamers would have common topics to talk about when they hang out together, chatting would be more enjoyable. They can ridicule each other whenever they play games together too. But gamers must take care of their eyes!!! 17173: Despite facing a lot of pressure from work, T-ara is still able to face everyone with a smile. So how do you all normally relieve stress? T-ara: There are many ways of stress relief, like playing games, exercising, maintaining quality sleep, watching television, hanging out with friends, to name a few. 17173: T-ara must have seen other Chinese girl groups too, what do you think are the differences between Chinese and Korean girl groups? T-ara: We don’t think there is a huge difference but we guess Chinese girl groups are cuter than us. 17173: There are a lot of male users on our site that like T-ara a lot, what do you think are your attractive points? T-ara: Probably because we're really hardworking? The hard work and effort that we put in so that we can present many different types of entertaining performances to everyone. Many people have complimented us for our hard work and effort. We're really grateful! 17173: What plans do T-ara have which everyone can really looking forward to? T-ara: Everyone can expect and look forward to see more of our collaborations with WOWS in the near future. We are really looking forward to it too! 17173: There are many users on 17173 that look upon T-ara as divas and goddesses, any words for them? T-ara: Thank you everyone for the support, we will continue to work hard to present even more good music to everyone~ *** Source: 17173.com

Girl group T-ara received an award on a Chuseok Special TV program. Although it was a small award, they cried. People might have mistaken that they had won a huge award but there is a deeper meaning. T-ara chose to perform a cover of Im Chang Jung's comical song 'Open The Door' on KBS2 Idol Song Contest, which was aired September 28th. They each wore old-fashioned training jumpsuits of different colors and made the audience laugh at their retro concept. T-ara is a girl group that has been around for almost 7 years since their debut in 2009. During the recording, they suppressed their stress by only thinking of their fans, the audience and viewers at home. They showed a different charm with their comical cover performance. The panel of judges recognized T-ara's sincerity and gave them a special award called the Hangawi Award (Mid-Autumn/Harvesting Festival award). The award surprised the T-ara's members and because it had been a such long time since they last won an award (in Korea), they felt more emotional. Eunjung said while welling up in tears, "we've been watching the original Idol Song Contest since we were young so we are very grateful and honored to have won this prize. We will be a T-ara that will always be filial to our parents." The other members were also touched and their eyes reddened. There is no other group like T-ara, that has been through so many ups and downs. Every song they have released since debut has an addictive melody that captivates the hearts of fans. They have also clinched multiple first place awards at music shows with their retro-concept music, but because of "that incident" in 2012, T-ara have been constantly falling. Undoubtedly, they continued schedules and promotions after that incident. Not only did they promote in Korea, but China as well to constantly produce new music. Surely as singers, they have to depend on singing and music but they have been constantly ridiculed as "determination girl group." Of course, the members have committed some mistakes, but the malicious comments directed at them have hurt them terribly. They were so scared to feel hurt during schedules that they would not read any comments on news articles. Although T-ara still has quite a lot of antis, T-ara's sincerity in performing well on stage has made many people that used to have their backs towards T-ara, turn around and acknowledge them. Currently, news articles about T-ara's appearance on Idol Song Contest have a lot lesser malicious comments. T-ara is finally receiving recognition after so long. Their tears carry deeper meanings that many people can never imagine. *** Source: Park So Young via OSEN

They could not wait to try all the delicacies of Penang and visited the Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion (The Blue Mansion). They were greeted by the owners with Nyonya pastries and helped themselves to the food in front of various Penang media! The three of them went to Brunei earlier to promote McSSY's cosmetic products and came down to Penang for a short vacation. They were excited to visit Penang for the first time and decided to make full use of these few days to explore Penang's various famous attractions. "We used to hear that Penang is the pearl of the Eastern regions, I think that the culture here is really interesting. We are very happy to visit Penang and want to visit many attractions, like the camera museum," Eunjung said during the interview. Hyomin added that they had already tried Chao Kway Teow (stir-fried Chinese noodles with flat noodles, cockles and pork sausage slices), Chendol (green worm-like jelly noodles made from rice flour, served with coconut milk, shaved ice and palm sugar), oyster omelette and Melacca ice cream. They hope to try even more local delicacies. Kang Bo Bae laughed and said she quenched her thirst with Penang's beer the moment they landed at Penang. "I'll be busy next month as I'll be filming a Korean daily drama. I can't reveal the title of the drama just yet, but I'll be focusing more on television appearances," Kang Bo Bae said. The 3 of them just arrived in Penang late yesterday night, which coincides with the Mid-Autumn Festival (Chuseok/Hangawi for Koreans). They really hope to try local mooncakes (Chinese pastry, usually with lotus paste filling). "Mid-Autumn Festival is a festive day where family members gather together. Because of work commitments and schedules, we missed this chance. Nevertheless, we are feeling warm because of the company of so many fans." They (Eunjung and Hyomin) said that they had never forgotten the warmth and passion from their Malaysian fans. They had visited Malaysia quite a few times now and even attended the Sultan of Johor's coronation ceremony earlier this year. This is their first time in Penang and they hope that there will more opportunities in the future for them to explore Malaysia. Lau Keng Ee Transforms Into a Fan T-ara's popularity is really huge. When they were in Penang, reporters and passers-by would rush to take pictures with them. Even member of state Pengkalan Kota, Lau Keng Ee transformed into a fan and took a picture with the three of them for remembrance. On a side note, Eunjung & Hyomin have a piece of good news for Malaysian fans: T-ara is planning to hold a concert in Malaysia next year, hope the fans will look forward to it! *** Source: KwongWah.my

Girl group T-ara revealed the secrets behind being a Hallyu girl group. T-ara appeared on the recent Asia Music Network Show Case on September 11. AMN is a platform for K-Pop idols and groups and acts as a stepping stone for them to expand overseas. It is a large-scale showcase stage for popular South Korean idols, groups, singers and bands. On the evening of September 11 , T-ara and two more MBK Entertainment’s idols (Shannon & DIA) appear on AMN’s and spent meaningful time together. Before T-ara’s performance, the girls revealed some secrets behind their Hallyu popularity and their heart-felt feelings as seniors of the other two idols in an interview. On the day of the showcase, Hyomin could not attend as she was in the US. She is the first South Korean idol to have the honor of making the first pitch for Pittsburgh Pirates, a Major League Baseball team. T-ara being an idol group that is almost 7 years old, still managed to practice and perform on stage without problems despite Hyomin’s absence. Soyeon said, “since debut, we have always been active with group activities as well as individual activities. As such, there were many instances where Hyomin was absent, even myself, and other members. Every time one member is unable to perform, we would revise the choreography. Basically, we would have 6 different versions (in any case any member was unable to perform).” Eunjung added, “Hyomin traveled across huge seas to the US, while we are here in Asia. However, all of us will still perform our best.” Q. AMN provides idols a chance to introduce and prove themselves to foreign music producers/agencies. It is said that T-ara is already very popular in China. Eunjung: Our China Tour is a very good chance of exposure for us. We constantly meet a lot of Hallyu fans and even managed to clinch several awards. We also managed to clinch the 1st position on China’s music charts and, collaborate with a popular Chinese singer duo (Chopstick Brothers). We were able to feel the love from our fans and are very grateful for that. Soyeon: Because we spoke to our peers around us, most of them managed to get good results from their Chinese activities, we didn’t think that we're really popular in China. Sometimes, our seniors would tell us about their success too. Q. After watching quite a few rookie groups that performed on AMN’s stage, we seem to be able to understand the factors that contributed to T-ara’s popularity. Eunjung: The most important thing is to work hard. No matter what, our biggest driving force is our music. Maybe some would say that our music is not exactly of the Pop genre, but a special color that is unique to us. When we perform with that ‘color’ to our fans, it seems like our music has a melody that is very popular among everyone. Our music is somehow our greatest weapon. Soyeon: Regarding Chinese’s Hallyu wave, there is not only K-Pop, but also movies, dramas and variety shows. All of T-ara’s 6 members have activities and apperances in various media, and we have experience in variety shows. Our biggest strength lies in the fact that everyone of us has the ability to fit in the various aspects of Chinese media. Q. What kind of activities does T-ara have in China right now? Soyeon: Jiyeon has finished filming 'Encounter' not long ago and it will be screened soon. As a whole group, all 6 of T-ara members have filmed our web drama too. Next, we will be be appearing on Chinese variety shows. We will be collaborating with a popular boy group in China, TFBOYS. Eunjung: It's for the second season of a popular cooking variety TV program called 'Celebrity Chefs China.' Soyeon: We're very honored to appear on a Chinese variety show with such a popular group. Q. When you appear on Chinese variety shows, how are you all going to communicate? Soyeon: If we appear on variety shows, we will need to talk quite a lot. Regretably, our Mandarin isn't that fluent yet. Fortunately, when Chinese variety shows invite South Korean idols, they would take good care of them. We don't feel uncomfortable while filming. There are quite a few Korean-speaking people in China, they probably picked Korean up while following the Hallyu wave. There are also Korean MCs, they'd use translating earpieces too, so we felt quite comfortable during the filming. Eunjung: We prepared some answers in Mandarin to respond to some usual standard questions, and also Chinese songs to perform. To prove our sincerity, we are constantly working hard to learn and practice Mandarin. Q. Generally speaking, K-Pop idols owe most of their popularity to their language abilities that appeal to various fans. How do T-ara communicate with their fans, then? Soyeon: Previously when we had our Japan Tour, we spent quite a lot of time studying Japanese. Although we are still quite lacking in Japanese, all the concerts in Japan were in Japanese. Therefore, we are determined to do the same for our China Tour. However, we are unable to speak Mandarin as fluently as Japanese so we'd prepare the important words that we want to tell our fans and say it at the start of the concert. Of course, there are instances where we have to use Korean too. However, we'd at least learn basic greeting and interesting phrases of a country's national language before visiting it. Eunjung: Also on SNS. We take pictures and upload them on our SNS accounts before, during rehearsal and after concerts. This is to show our commitment to making our fans feel closer to us. Soyeon: We prepare some surprise activities every now and then too. Q. Recently, T-ara just had their comeback with 'So Crazy.' Eunjung: Our Korean fans have given 'So Crazy' a lot of love. It's our comeback after a long break since the end of 'Sugar Free' promotions. It became a chance for us to reunite with our fans. We also have this ongoing activity where fans wear sunflowers on their heads while watching our performances. Other fans from various countries came down too. It was a good chance for us to bond with our fans' hearts. Q. T-ara must have prepared many more surprise events for fans, right? Soyeon: This time round's album should have been a surprise itself. The time of this comeback was brought forward too. This seems like an album and comeback where the feeling to engage and interact with our fans is even stronger. Because we had been busy with many activities overseas, it feels like the time we spend with our fans has shortened. This comeback seems to be more special so we prepared many more surprise events. Eunjung: We're very happy that our fans watched our performances as if they were a pretty girl group, haha. (Fans wore sunflowers to music shows and events.) Q. This comeback allowed T-ara to try a more innocent and cheerful concept. T-ara have tried a lot of different concepts. Soyeon: Red Velvet and Laboum did pretty well too (with different concepts). Although we are quite satisfied with the results of our previous comebacks, we can't really say, "we did exceptionally well." There are quite a lot of regretful moments. Eunjung: Nevertheless, we still worked hard and persevered till the end. Since we were trainees, our attitude never changed. We are still very determined to do well in our performances. Rather than being innocent, I think that we are more suited for high-spirited and cheerful concepts. Our debut song 'Lies' seemed like a innocent concept, but compared to other groups, it seemed more like a depressing concept, haha. Soyeon: We always choose those concepts that leave a deeper impression, more likeable and cheerful, so that the public and fans will find the concepts more agreeable. It's a pretty good thing that these concepts seem to differentiate us from the rest of the groups. We're very happy now. So crazy, so happy~ Jiyeon: I really like the concept of 'So Crazy.' Another concept that we did in the past that can make you laugh is 'Roly Poly.' I think it has been 3-4 years already? It's been a long time since we can wear such pretty clothes to show a pretty and cute image. It's been long since we had the chance to engage and interact with our fans too. We wanted to work even harder this comeback for our fans. Q. What is T-ara's resolution for future activities? Boram: We will continue to work even harder for future activities. Of course eating healthily and taking good care of our health is of utmost importance too. We hope that we won't fall sick and live healthily. We want to continue this way, we hope that we can be a T-ara that works even harder. *** Source: TenAsia

Sina Entertainment News had the pleasure to interview Korean girl group T-ara. They had just released their 11th mini album So Good and signed a contract with one of the wealthiest man in China, Wang Sicong under his entertainment agency Banana Project. On top of that, T-ara still has many other plans for activities in China. The love that T-ara has for their fans was also demonstrated through an occurence on the day of the interview. A male T-ara fan and student saw T-ara through the glass window of the cafe where T-ara was having the interview. He mustered his courage to approach them and said, “I am a fan of yours, can I have a picture with you all?” Just when T-ara’s manager was about to stop him, the members quickly responded, “please wait for us, we are having an interview.” 30 minutes later, the members went to look for the male student and took a group picture with him. They also asked about his school and which grade he was studying in before wishing him good luck and asking him to study hard. *** The transcript of the interview: Sina Entertainment: After the promotions of your latest album and the China Tour this year, what do you want to do? Will the members stick together or do you all have your own personal plans? Soyeon: Previously, we went to Europe for a photo shoot together as a group. We were in Europe for about 10 days, but we didn’t exactly have time to walk around much. We have pretty low chances to fly to Europe again but I hope that we can visit Europe together once again for another photo shoot. This time, we want to show a more mature side of us, followed by a group vacation. Eunjung: If we have the time, I hope that we can appear on a few Chinese variety shows like 'Hurry Up, Brother!' etc. Although our Mandarin isn’t fluent, I remember watching Choo Jahyeon appear on a variety show. She went to experience the life of being a daughter-in-law in a Chinese village. If all of us could appear on variety shows filmed outdoors, I think it will be an interesting and realistic experience. Studio-based variety shows are not bad too, but I prefer variety shows where we can show a more personal side of us. Thus, outdoor variety shows would bee better, we can film and play at the same time. Qri: I want to learn how to play sports like Tennis. Hyomin: I want to enroll into a university as soon as possible, I want to be a graduate. It’s hard for me now. Eunjung: Universities and tertiary institutions have very demanding standards. However, if you really have the heart, I believe that there are chances out there. *** Sina Entertainment: You had collaborated with China’s popular duo Chopstick Brothers for 'Little Apple' and received great response. Other than this song, what other China singers and Chinese songs do you like? Soyeon: I had watched Jay Chou’s movie Initial D in the past and became his fan. I also listen to his music and I think his songs are really charismatic. My dream is to be able to collaborate with Jay Chou; he can play the music while I sing. I also like Joey Yung, especially the song 'Wings Waving Girl' (literal translation, English version: Proud of You). If there is a chance, I hope I can try covering it. Eunjung: TF BOYS, although the members are quite young, they are indeed an immensely popular idol group in China. We had previously met them twice at award ceremonies. Their fan base in South Korea is pretty big too, so I really look forward to a chance to collaborate with them. Hyomin: All the other members had appeared on dramas, movies etc. I really want to collaborate with various Chinese celebrities, be it singing or filming. *** Sina Entertainment: Every member has appeared in dramas, movies, plays, musicals etc. Which member do you all think is the most natural in acting? Or does anyone think that she is better than someone else? How has performing arts helped the members? All members: Boram is the most natural, she performs with her heart, so it feels very realistic. Eunjung: There seems to be a fixed standard for acting. When I watch movies, I would think, “I must use this tone to speak if I were to act out this role,” there seems to be this standard that the audience expects. If I were to deviate from that standard, it seems to give off a different feeling, which might not be good. Soyeon: When I watch television, take an animated film for example, the Little Mermaid. When the Little Mermaid was speaking to Sebastian the crab, a random fish suddenly swam past and spoke in a human voice. It’s this kind of feeling, she (Boram) uses her acting to perfectly express (the character’s) feelings, just like how we would in real life, Boram is like this. Boram: My thoughts? I think (everyone) is pretty good. Other than myself, the other members have appeared quite a few times on television. Although I have the chance to appear on a web drama this time round, I have not appeared much on television. I had chatted with my mom regarding matters about the other members, we talked about good and regretful things. Their acting are all natural. Because it’s them, I believe that they can do it well. Eunjung has appeared on quite a few dramas since she was young, Qri is very pretty and she acts well, and it is needless to say for Jiyeon. Although Soyeon’s acting is natural too, she did not have much opportunities. Hyomin’s performance has been quite good too. Soyeon: Hyomin is suitable for comedies. After filming the web drama, I feel that she’s really a comedy queen. She is able to bring humor to the stage too, it’s very good. Hyomin: There isn’t much to be regretful about - everyone has appeared on television before. If we are not singing, we would be performing on stage, so we don’t really have time to watch each other’s works. It’s very rare we're under the same studio, which gave us the chance to watch each other’s acting. Although there are some parts of the web drama where we could have done better, sitting together and watching each other’s acting was quite interesting and fun. *** Sina Entertainment: Compared to other idol groups, T-ara’s advantage or secret weapon is that every member has acting experience. Furthermore, you all have talent in acting, which is a very good advantage for a celebrity. Eunjung: We all have our strengths and we know how to utilize them. Because we are usually busy with music schedules, we don’t really have the time to improve our acting. But we've been learning since debut because of the chances that we had to appear in plays, while some of us had acting experience even before debut. Soyeon: Actually, we were preparing to appear on television shows before we gathered to debut together as T-ara. That’s why we are both singers and actresses coincidentally. *** Sina Entertainment: Do you intend to have new activities in South Korea? If there is a chance, would you want to enter the movie industry in China? What kind of media do you really want to appear in? Soyeon: Eunjung just starred in 'I Love You From Today' and the filming just finished not long ago. Jiyeon starred in 'Encounter' and will be aired in China soon. Recently, we have just finished the filming of 'Sweet Temptation' and will be aired on television and can be streamed on Hong Kong, China, Japan and South Korea's websites. As such, we had officially debuted in China as actresses and will have chances to appear on various media . Everyone can watch us on Chinese television and we hope to have more chances to appear on Korean television. Hyomin: 'Sweet Temptation' will be aired on South Korean websites next month, SBS MTV will be broadcasting it as well. *** Sina Entertainment: T-ara members have displayed their individual charms through 'Sweet Temptation.' Because some of the episodes were rated 15+ and 19+ through various posters, many are looking forward to watch. How are the episodes? Are you all satisfied with the male actors you all were paired with? Would you want to work with them again in the future if there is a chance? (Kim Shi Hoo, Kim Jae Wook, Seo Jun Young, Lee Joong Moon, Jang Su Won, Hyun Woo) Soyeon: 19+? We had to adjust our acting because we thought about our fans. We intentionally made it less provocative, so the drama will not be like the poster, but it will still be quite sexy. Hyomin: Kim Shi Hoo is really handsome. When I saw him, I couldn’t help but to be in awe, he’s really too handsome. Soyeon: Kim Shi Hoo is not your usual handsome man, he is still very handsome in his unique way. I’ve always accepted any roles that was thrown to me, but I hope that I would get an innocent character role in a love drama. I’m looking forward to show my gentle side through the role. The other 5 members are really good in acting but it seems like their images did not fit perfectly into their roles. There is one scene where Kim Shi Hoo stopped crying and looked into Boram’s eyes. I can feel that he was using his eyes and expression very well. I think it would be nice if I get the chance to cast alongside him in a love story. Boram: I think Kim Shi Hoo, my male lead partner in the drama is the best. I also want to try acting with Seo Jun Young, his acting is really natural, I like that kind of acting. Qri: Kim Shi Hoo, my reason is quite similar to Soyeon’s. He’s also my age, I really want to partner with someone my age. Everyone: Has Kim Shi Hoo become T-ara’s ideal man? (laugh) Eunjung: I want to star in a movie like 'Two Cops' (1993) with Seo Jun Young. A romance and action movie, which is also filled with suspense and humor. 'Two Cops' has that kind of feel to it. It seems like only Seo Jun Young can pull off this kind of multi-genre movie. Jiyeon: Seo Jun Young. His acting is really good, that’s the only reason I guess. I felt very comfortable during the filming together too. Eunjung: Actually I really wanted to act in a love drama with Kim Jae Wook, to feel his love. *** Sina Entertainment: What is T-ara's secret to taking good care of their body and figure? What is each member's personal recommendations? And also skin care tips. Qri: My thighs would swell up because of water retention easily. I would wear tights and elevate my thighs with a pillow underneath. I'm not sure how well this works, but I can see the difference. Jiyeon: I would massage myself regularly to improve blood circulation and to relax my body. Boram: Massage and sauna. When there is swelling due to water retention, I would sweat it out first, then massage. That would increase the effectiveness. Eunjung: I would remove my makeup and rinse my face after schedules. As I get older, I pay more attention to my skin so I would apply facial masks and cosmetic products before I go to bed. Hyomin: I'm like Qri since we always share the same room when we are on schedules overseas. I wear tights to sleep for 5 years now. I probably don't wear them for 20 nights (out of the 5 years). I'll have half body baths, where I would soak my lower body in beer or rice wine. I really want to drink beer but I would get dehydrated easily if I drink right after a half body bath in alcohol. I'm recently into Flying Yoga, hope I can learn more about it. Soyeon: I'm not born skinny or slim, I would put on weight even if I exercise or control my diet. I don't like exercising, my blood circulation isn't good so I constantly suffer from swelling and water retention. My kidneys aren't in the best shape either, but I didn't care much in the past. I used to go on unhealthy diet regimes to lose weight and it compromised my health, making my swelling and water retention worse. Later on I decided to plan a proper diet regime, a 6-month plan of low-salt diet, or even not putting salt in my food at all, only a little bit of sesame oil. I stopped fasting but strictly no food at night. I also learned Pilates, which I kind of like. My standing posture improved as a result and I realized that I look better in pictures now. *** Sina Entertainment: What would your occupation be if you’re not a celebrity? Eunjung: I like speaking, so I want to be a news anchor. I like poking around too, so I guess being a lawyer might not be too bad. Jiyeon: Athlete? I think I will be a Taekwondo player. I can smash 3 boards. Boram: My dream is to be a kindergarten teacher or a dean of an orphanage, something like that. Soyeon: My dream in the past was to be a news anchor. When I was in high school, my teacher recommended me to be a news anchor too - I might prepare for a news anchor entrance examination. I have recently liked pets more. I have always loved small animals and am constantly engaged in social work to care for stray dogs, so this is another area that I would consider. Hyomin: Fashion stylist, or a fashion magazine editor, something along those lines. Qri: I will continue being a trainee, constantly work hard towards debut. *** Sina Entertainment: It has been almost 7 years since you all debuted in 2009, has there been any changes in terms of performance on stage? Apart from stage performance, what other big transformations have you went through? Eunjung: The expressions and eye contact that we have with our fans during concerts has become more natural. We didn’t have this kind of skills when we were rookies. We didn’t know if the fans would like it and we were not sure how to pull it off. However, we know that the fans love us. We know that they love our eye contact with them, drawing hearts, dancing etc. The biggest transformation is probably our matured stage presence and charisma. On the other hand, the biggest change that we had made since our debut was our ability to think on our own feet. We needed to depend on others to tell us what to do, when to do it. Now, we make our own decisions and we better understand our fans’ intentions. We received everyone’s love, it’s natural that we have to repay everyone. As a result, we have learned to be more responsible. Soyeon: Although it is a little embarrassing to say it out, I think I have more self-awareness now. I had debuted at a young age so I didn’t know how to take care of myself and wasn’t self-aware. This is actually very important for a celebrity. In the past, I was very shy to look at myself perform. I should have watched videos of myself more often to know how I could improve. As time passed by, I realized the importance of self-awareness so I started working out. Hyomin: My long-time dream came true. Although I don’t have a specific goal, but my dream has been fulfilled. Because everyone recognizes and acknowledges T-ara now. Many people like T-ara, they know how to sing our songs, and know how others like us. We have became closer to each other and we want to repay the love from our fans. The biggest change I think, is that I have grown to feel more responsible towards T-ara. Soyeon: We are at our peak recently. Hyomin: My biggest goal is for everyone’s memory of T-ara to be beautiful. Eunjung: We love T-ara and our fans. *** Sina Entertainment: There are quite a few new rookie groups that have just debuted. Which rookie group has caught your attention the most? How is your sister-group DIA? Hyomin, Jiyeon, Eunjung, Boram: GFriend, they are very awesome and adorable. Soyeon: Laboum. We were there during the rehearsal before their debut stage. Although they are better than us, whenever I look at them, it reminds me of us in the past. We did pretty well at that time too. Hyomin: DIA is our younger sister-juniors, please love them. *** Sina Entertainment: What do you all think is the reason for T-ara’s solid and huge fan base in China? Why is T-ara enjoying so much popularity? What do each member think her own individual charm is? Soyeon: Actually, our seniors had set the foundation of the Korean wave in China very well 10 years ago. They are the ones that created the Korean wave, we are just following in their footsteps. All 6 of us have our own unique strengths, which also mean that we can fit into many different concepts. Although not every one of us have distinctive and outstanding strengths, we are able to create many wonderful things as a 6-member group. Our fans know this very well, that’s why they love us so much. We also think that it is very important to constantly interact and engage with fans, which is why many people are coming to like us, and become fans too. We owe our popularity to our fans and seniors. Eunjung: Just like Soyeon had said, the Korean wave has always been here. We appeared on television because of the Korean wave trends and managed to boost our reputation. Our music is also tailored to fit the public taste, which is well-accepted by Chinese fans. They really like our music style and concepts. Even if we were to try many different styles and concepts in the future, we will not forget the group’s unique strengths, choreographies, styles. These suit the tastes of Chinese fans. Their population is huge and they like various music styles, this could be the reason why they love us so much - because we are able to meet their expectations of pulling off various styles and concepts. *** Sina Entertainment: When do Boram and Soyeon intend to start their Sina Weibo accounts? Fans are looking forward to it. Soyeon: I really want to start one, but it feels very difficult. I’m not good with computers and technology. Instagram is much easier - it’s just uploading pictures. Weibo is all in Mandarin so I feel that it’s difficult for me. I really want to try, I intend to start one with the help of my Mandarin language teacher. Boram: I just started Instagram too. I’m really not good with technology, but I’ll try to start one soon. ***** Source: Sina Entertainment

T-ara’s immense and unparalleled popularity in China is quite different from their situation in South Korea. Chinese fans value T-ara very dearly and Queen’s are in an intense competition with Beyonce’s fans in the US Billboard’s 'Fan Army Face-off 2015.' In this international fan army face-off, the Chinese Queen’s contribution cannot be dismissed in the Queen’s overwhelming lead. Because of the controversy that T-ara was involved in, they received negative comments from their locals and also find it hard to maintain their popularity overseas. However, T-ara have always been the top in China, be it album sales or music chart rankings. Therefore, this article will be analysing the reasons behind T-ara’s immense popularity among the Chinese fans. Step 1: T-ara’s press conference in October 2014 regarding advancement into China T-ara’s official advancement into China for activities was on October 13th, 2014. T-ara’s members expressed the goals they wish to achieve during their Chinese activities. However, T-ara already had the love and support of Chinese Queen’s beforehand. Through their showcases and concerts in China in 2013, they had shortened the distance between themselves and their fans. T-ara had attracted about 100 different media outlets to their press conference. They even appeared on variety shows hosted by China MTV and were interviewed by many media outlets. Step 2: Collaboration with the “Chinese PSY” in November 2014 T-ara really boosted their popularity in China with their collaboration with the “Chinese PSY,” Chopstick Brothers. T-ara brought their popularity among Chinese fans to the next level with their collaboration with Chopstick Brothers to remake a Korean version of 'Little Apple.' The Korean version of 'Little Apple' was sitting on the #1 spot for 16 consecutive weeks and the MV managed to get 500 million views, making it the most popular song in 2014. Step 3: The secret behind maintaining the popularity - releasing Chinese versions Whenever T-ara releases a Korean song in Korea, they will also release a Chinese version. This allowed both T-ara and their fans know that they think of each other, and creates an emotional connection. This is one of the secrets behind maintaining their immense popularity. Starting from Number 9, till Eunjung’s solo recently, and finally the current So Crazy, T-ara would release Chinese versions of their title songs and even Chinese MVs. T-ara’s popularity is closely linked to their catchy songs that captivated the hearts of Chinese Queen’s. By producing Chinese versions, they are able to capture the fans’ hearts. Combined with easy sing-along verses, addictive tunes etc, T-ara’s songs enjoy great popularity in China. The effort to release Chinese versions of their songs touched the fans’ hearts, increasing their fondness of T-ara. A representative expressed thoughts about this analysis: "the Chinese versions of T-ara’s songs play a huge role in their popularity in China. Combined with melodies unique to T-ara’s songs, T-ara’s popularity among Chinese fans skyrockets." *** Source: IS Plus
