  1. hm... are you using the mobile version? if so, yea, I can't see the instagram photos when using the mobile version either...

since all their photos are on our gallery as well, I'll change them for ours they should be working now... but I do like the instagram ones, they show us likes and comments and the link to her instagram too...

If by mobile version you mean if I browse from my mobile, then no. I always browse from my laptop and I fairly often can't see some photos in this section. This topic's photos work now though!

  2. I'm expecting some japanese versions of quite a few of their korean songs so I'm looking forward to this album. I usually avoid japanese versions of k-pop songs almost on principle because of how much cooler the korean language is, but when it comes to T-ara their japanese versions are often better imo. Probably because the way their voices are autotuned makes them sound less like chipmunks compared to their korean songs.

  3. See: BoA (Not an exceptional singer like you two suggest needed to become a solo act), Hyuna, Lee Hyori (this is even more relevant as Lee Hyori was in Fin.K.L and she wasn't even the standout of them), Jay Park, J.Y.P, Simon D, literally everyone.

You should NOT be judging idols on how well they sing, they're idols after all. Soyeon is in no way T-ara's best performer, she has her moments, like when she's given vocal lines and allowed to demonstrate her capability, but she is not the best performer. "a poor performer(in a group not known for being particulary good at either)." that line was so confusing, but I'm going to take it at face value. T-ara not known for being preformers? You lost me, T-ara is literally all performances, for the EXACT reason you mentioned: not one of them has standout vocals. The reason they made it this far hasn't been on any members efforts alone. The reason T-ara got popular was was SoJiEunMin, Soyeon with her comedy and witty attitude on Oh! My school. Jiyeon for being the face of the group and being compared to Kim Tae Hee, Eunjung for showcasing her abilities in Dream High, and Hyomin for showing her personality and worth on Invincible Youth. Not to mention those 4 were paired with SuperNova, the literal reason they got famous. Eunjung and Hyomin aren't competing against eachother, Eunjung probably DOES want to go solo as a singer, and they all want to remain T-ara as well, however her agency (CCM) does not see it fit for her because their prospects of getting money out of the whole event is low. Eunjung as a singer being better than Hyomin is questionable as well, she's not the type of person to carry a song and control her voice, she's more the belter of the group. Look at any performance with the two of them, Hyomin usually does most of the singing when they are together. Eunjung defeats Hyomin in areas of old style singing and Trot, no doubt about that. As long as they don't Autotune Hyomin to hell, I'm fine with Brave Brothers, pls no sistar rehash song though.

Y'all should check out the Nine Muses idol documentary, btw. It gives you insight into this industry, and makes you see what idols actually go through, and have to live through. Kind of sad, esp thinking about how CCM treats them.

(I was upset when watching Hello Baby and seeing how small their vocal practice room was T_T)

Scatter already kind of answered for me, for the most part. I'd just like to add that those you mentioned not only have their labels' power behind them but they can pull off decent performances(those that I know anyway), something that T-ara members have never excelled at and have even been criticised for lacking(Jiyeon being one of the weakest is why I don't like this). Not to mention that some of the more longstanding examples you gave, like BoA and Lee Hyori, actually do have a decent amount of talent, which is not something you can say about, well, any of the T-ara members, which is again, something that got them criticism in the past. So, yeah, this is pretty much what I meant, didn't mean to be confusing.

Fully agreed with you there except this bit :3

    As a casual K-hiphop fan/listener, Hyomin cannot be considered a rapper ><

I know she's lackluster as far as real rapping goes, but as far as idols go she's not really bad and her miniscule skill is still better than nothing. Combined with her mediocre singing it doesn't really hurt her chances in any case.

Though I keep getting the feeling that I should listen to some k-rapping <_^

  4. This does not sit that well with me.
For starters none of the girls are solo material, not even Soyeon who is their best singer and arguably best performer. Also Ahreum already was planned(allegedly) to go solo, so it's kind of lame that she's put on hold(not that I'm surprised, she's not the only one in that company put on hold).

I could understand that they wanted someone more popular than Soyeon and Ahreum, but I really, really dislike that they're having Jiyeon debut. Sure. she's CCM's cash cow, their most well promoted idol, and thus, one of the most popular in the group, but she's pretty much T-ara's second worst singer and for all her looks, a poor performer(in a group not known for being particulary good at either).

If they wanted to promote their most popular for a solo album, they should have picked Eunjung instead of her. Eunjung is also one of their most popular(on par with Jiyeon and Hyomin even), and she's every bit Hyomin's equal, possibly even better, as a performer and singer. I suppose there's a reason for not using her, but I still don't like it.

I can sort of dig Hyomin having her own album. Excluding Soyeon she's tied with Eunjung as T-ara's best, as far as I'm concerned anyway, and she's also a decent rapper, so she's worth something at least(better choice than Jiyeon anyway). Though I kind of hate Brave Brothers so my enthusiasm isn't really through the roof.

    *Rolls eyes*

As solo singers? My god, that is just stretching it far.

None of those two are even capable as branching out as solo singers. Not even Soyeon has the chops to branch out successfully as a solo. Their lives aren't exactly what you can consider 'solo' capability, especially compared to actual solo singers out there, or even idol vocalists like Taeyeon and Hyorin >__>.

    We should hang out.

  5. Soyeon, easily. Her voice is one of the most powerful in the group, second at the very least, it's the easiest to recognise out of all of them, she has the best technique(as far as I can tell anyway, not really an expert), and most of all, she expresses emotions the best.

Not even a contest. I'm honestly surprised she only has 45% of the votes.

  6. It's hard for me to do a ranking like most of you did, partially because I often change my mind. Right now it's something like this:

-Hyomin => Because I like her voice as a singer and rapper, it makes her raps sound interesting and cool even if they don't have quite the same rapper feel as the others rappers' do(both past and present). She's also entertaining to watch and pulls off sexy better than the others on stage and in videos. That is made more impressive by her being the most underweight in the group arguably and thus the least attractive to me, though she's still very feminine.

-Soyeon => I respect her vocal prowess and her variety skills, this girl is hilarious even if I can only read the english subtitles. Add that she's a fun and bold performer and you get a rare idol.

-Boram => Arguably T-ara's underdog, she's criminally cute, has a nice voice and can really shine when she's allowed to. I also like her raps, she sounds pretty nice. Right now I'd actually have her do their raps, rather than Eunjung or Hyomin.

The order changes depending on my whims, but right now it's between these three. I don't really care about the others at the moment.

  7. Sexy love- Hyomin, the outfit and makeup suited her very well.

Lovey Dovey(korean version)- Hwayoung or Hyomin, they both looked gorgeous to me, especially as zombies, and had the best lines but I can't decide which I like better.

Lovey dovey(japanese version)-Hwayoung or Hyomin, pretty much the same, except that Hyomin was sexy while Hwayoung had swag!

I go crazy because of you- Eunjung, great parts, distinctive look compared to the others(the shorter hair), I remember she caught my attention the most when I first watched the video because I thought she was Hwayoung lol.

Roly poly(korean)- Jiyeon, she nailed the retro look.

Roly poly(japanese)- Hwayoung, she totally nailed the short hair and her expressions were my favorite, helps that she had more exposure than in the korean version.

Day by day(dance version)- Hwayoung, loved her look and her rap parts(those made the whole song for me).

What should I do- Boram, loved her parts and the fact that she appeared a lot, this look is also her best from any MV while most of the others have had better imo.

Number 9- Jiyeon, sexy, her clothes were very well picked in that regard.

Time to love- Eunjung, my favorite look on her and her rap parts were pretty good.

Mentioned my bias a bit much but hey, not my fault she caught my eye a lot.

  8. @heraldc

Wasn't passing judgement on anyone, I was attempting to be realistic and adress the topic. I wasn't really trying to make an argument in my third paragraph, mostly because I'm not about to go and track down any non-verbal cues I got from the girls in videos that might have given me my impressions and which would be pointless to anyone else, so I suppose I was ranting a bit. Wasn't entirely unrelated though

    @Scatter_88mil

Needless to say at this point perhaps but I agree with you, so place fist somewhere in this area =>

  9. I've had feelings like this in the past and they can be troublesome. But honestly, this happens more when you have too much of an attachment to your favorite celebrities, it's why I feel it's ideal to be somewhat indifferent to the idols themselves and focus on their music/acting/whatever you like about them.

It's a bit harder with k-pop since part of the appeal is that you're supposed to get the impression that you connect with idols on some level, but it's still doable if you rationalise that in the end hurtful comments don't really affect you in any meaningful way. Sure, you feel bad for the idols criticised, but in the end you don't really know them personally, only an image they project, and only have a parasocial relationship, which by definition isn't even real, no matter how depressing that may sound. Plus it's not like negative comments can hurt them directly either, they'll still continue doing their thing while making more money than most people, and entertaining us.

It may not be easy but it's doable, especially if you have some other passions/hobbies to focus on.

In my case, as far as T-ara in concerned, I've only had this feeling with Hwayoung and to a significantly lesser extent, Boram, Ahreum and Qri. For some reason that I can't really understand myself I have a hard time feeling sorry for the Golden Trio and even Soyeon whenever they're bashed for god knows what, even if I like them as performers. Maybe it's the bullying scandal that influenced me without me noticing but as much as they might act cute, nice and likeable(and they can) I just can't fully buy it.

Though I suppose Soyeon is sometimes an exception since, even though I only read the english subtitles and don't understand korean myself, she's just too good at variety for me to care whether she's actually nice or not.

I imagine there aren't many that agree with me
